The Memory
In the valley outside of Estes Park, CO, about a few miles before The Stanley Hotel, there’s a small stone chapel at the bottom of a hill. Its doors are heavy oak and when they open, the air shifts — cool, resinous, faintly sweet with incense and old wood. The sound of footsteps echoing against the flagstone floor.
Inside, the light filters through cathedral style stained-glass windows, scattering amber and blue across the pews. There are no candles. No tapestries. It has long since been out of use. There is nothing grand about it, but it is holy. Holy in the way only silence and the sense of the eternal can be holy.
During one of my college summer vacations, I went on a five day retreat to the center that owns this old chapel. I don't know whatever happened to it, whether it was ever brought back into use or just left to be reclaimed by nature and time, but on occasion I like to remember that sacred building and meditate on the beauty of the finite and the Infinite.
The Inspiration
The Olde Chapel was inspired by the scent of reverence — that timeless blend of wood, earth, and devotion that lingers long after the hymn fades. It’s a candle for reflection and remembrance, for mornings spent in quiet prayer or evenings when you need to feel grounded again.
Each pour holds the weight of memory — of hands folded, candles lit, hearts stilled. It’s the fragrance of peace made tangible, of sanctuary reclaimed.
Fragrance Notes
Cedar • Myrrh • Vetiver • Patchouli
Mood: Meditative • Sacred • Grounding
Best For: Quiet evenings, reading, reflection, prayer
Behind the Pour
Every Olde Chapel candle is hand-poured in small batches of pure beeswax, blended with the deep warmth of cedar and the resinous grace of myrrh. Vetiver and patchouli lend depth — a grounding whisper that anchors light to earth. The wood wick burns slow and steady, echoing the soft crackle of candlelight against stone walls.
It’s more than a scent; it’s a moment of stillness you can return to again and again.
Pairings
Pairs beautifully with Heirloom Hearth and Pepperidge Hill, creating a trio of warmth, reflection, and spiritual quiet.
Reflection
“In quietness and in trust shall be your strength.” — Isaiah 30:15
Light this candle when the world grows loud — let it still your thoughts, steady your breath, and remind you that peace was never lost, only waiting to be found.
